Winch course
Please be aware, that the following is information only! As the only accepted language on our airfield is German, we can only offer courses in German language!
Flugsport Wien has been training glider pilots for many years. With our cost-effective flat-rate package, we aim to appeal to aviation enthusiasts and prospective members who would then like to practise gliding in our club.
Due to the fact that every member of our club is working at the the club non-paid in their freetime, we are able to offer the complete training for EUR 3.300,-.
If you choose to acquire your Glider Pilots Licence at our club, you will be a part of "Flugsport Wien" from the first day. You will be educated in both the theoretical and practical aspects of the gliding sport.
Training takes place during our weekend flight operations (Saturday and Sunday) and on public holidays. You’ll start with one of our flight instructors, who will take you through your first launches in a two-seat training glider. The winch gets you airborne within seconds. From there, you’ll learn how to fly, land, and safely control the glider.
Alongside the practical training, you are taught everything you need to know about the theoretical subject of gliding during the winter. From aircraft knowledge, meteorology, air law and human performance, everything is covered that you need to know to pass the theoretical exam.
Mit all dem Wissen bist Du dann bestens auf deinen ersten Alleinflug vorbereitet. Du wirst dich vermutlich dein ganzes Leben an diesen großen Tag erinnern – der Moment, in dem deine Fluglehrerin/dein Fluglehrer aussteigt und Dir die alleinige Verantwortung für dich und den Flieger übergibt. Die Dauer der gesamten Ausbildung bis zum Erhalt des Pilotenscheins hängt hauptsächlich von deinem Engagement und deiner Anwesenheit am Flugplatz ab. Du solltest hierfür mindestens 4 Tage pro Monat einplanen, um das Ausbildungsziel zügig zu erreichen. Wenn du oft kommst und fliegst, kann die Ausbildung innerhalb einer Saison (April bis Oktober) abgeschlossen werden. Im Durchschnitt kannst du mit etwa 1 1/2 Saisonen rechnen.
Included in the package (all costs incurred within the club)
- Up to 150 take-offs on the winch. This should be enough to acquire the licence and the winch rating.
- Theoretial course
- Support from our flight instructors throughout the the whole duration of the training course.
- An outfield landing exercise in a motor glider
- Usage of all the club facilities and infrastructure
- Club membership till glider training completion
- Membership at the "Austrian Aero Club" for the first calender year
Not included in the package price
- Medical Certificate Class II (approx. €230)
- Fee for the examination and issuance of the licence by the AeroClub (approx. €100)
- Fee for course and exam for VHF radiotelephony certificate (approx. €200)
- Flight logbook (if you don't already have one) (€10)
Further information
- Glider training, exams and radio communication at the airfield is provided in German language only
- Training must be completed within 24 months from starting.
- The course fee of EUR 3.300,- is due at the beginning of the course. EUR 1.600,- will be refunded in case the course is canceled before the 31. take-off.
Aeroplane tow rating
Besides taking off from the winch, it is also possible to be pulled to altitude by a powered aircraft. The extra course "aero-tow" costs ca. EUR 500,-.
