What Opportunities Are There in Gliding?

What Are the Requirements for Gliding Training?
The minimum age to begin training is 15. In addition, an aviation medical examination is required in order to fly.
When does the training take place?
From mid-March until the end of October, practical training – in other words, flying – takes place on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. If visibility is poor, it is raining, or the wind is too strong, theoretical instruction is provided instead.
Where does the training take place?
Both practical and theoretical training take place at the Airfield.
How Long Does the Training Take?
If a student pilot takes part in flight operations regularly, it usually takes around 25 flying days to complete the examination flights. Before that, students complete around 70 to 90 flights in a two-seat glider with one of our flight instructors, followed by 30 solo flights.
How Much Does Gliding Cost?
With around EUR 800 to 1,000 per year, you can spend plenty of time in the air. You can find the exact rates here.

Where Can I Come Along for a Flight and Try Gliding for a Day?
You can join us for a Trial Day on a weekend and fly in a two-seat glider with one of our flight instructors. The best way is to call us here and arrange a date.
Are There Any Mandatory Duties or Required Working Hours in the Club?
There are many different ways to contribute to the club. From managing launch operations and operating the winch to helping in the workshop or, later on, becoming a flight instructor, there is something for everyone. We do not require members to complete a fixed number of working hours, but we do expect each member’s contribution, at their own discretion, to be in a reasonable proportion to their flying activities.
Where Can I See Which Flights Have Taken Place?
Every glider is equipped with a GPS logger. Cross-country flights are usually uploaded to the official website of the Austrian gliding championships and can be viewed by anyone here.
